2014 Paws for Beer Advent Calendar

Beer Advent Calendar
the 2014 Paws for Beer Advent Calendar

Last year I did a beer advent calendar and since I like traditions (that include beer) I decided to do it again.  24 days and 24 mostly new beers.  To save any judgement being passed on me, I consume my beers at the socially acceptable time 5pm.   Below is my list of beers from the 2014 Paws for Beer Advent Calendar. I listed a brief description of what I thought of each beer and how I ranked them on Untappd, an app that tracks the beers you drink. If you are not already on Untappd, I recommend checking it out.

1.House Ale by Traquair House Brewery; Untappd 3.5 out of 5. Woodsy flavor – not my favorite thing in the entire world.
2.Red Betty IPA by Central City Brewers 4 out of 5. Nice amount of bitterness
3.Titan IPA by Great Divide Brewing. 3 out of 5. Piney and sweet; odd combination
4.Blue Dot (Spring 2014) Double IPA by Hair of the Dog. 4 our of 5. Cloudy unfiltered, good hop flavors, citrus notes.
5.Fireside Chat from 21st Amendment brewery. 4 out of 5. Nice spice flavor with a pretty deep rich red coloring
6.Loser by Elysian. 4 out of 5. Surprisingly hoppy for a pale ale.
7.Hoptopia by Scuttlebutt Brewing. 3.5 out of 5. Lacking a big hop flavor for an Imperial IPA. Good flavor with higher AVB 8%.
8.Dirt Wolf Double IPA by Victory 3.5 out of 5. Too much citrus flavor, overpowers rest of beer

9.Abominable Winter Ale by HUB. 4 out of 5. Nice color, not a very strong flavor for a winter ale.
10.Pray for Snow 10 Barrel Brewing. 4 out of 5. Nice dark color, flavorful winter ale
11.Hibernation Ale by Great Divide Brewing. 3.5 out of 5. Very malty, little hop flavoring, dark rich in color beer.
12.Sweet As Pacific Ale by Good Life. 3.5 out of 5. Low hop, not overly flavorful.
13.Scape Goat Pale Ale by Big Sky Brewing Co 4 out of 5. Good pale ale. Low hop but decent flavor
14. Dayglow IPA by Elysian. 4 out of 5. Just realized something – nothing but IPA’s have taste anymore. Probably should lay off the IPAs until my pallet returns to normal.
15.Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale by Lagunitas. Interesting taste. Love their tag line “life is uncertain, don’t sip”
16. West Coast IPA by Green Flash Brewing. 3 out of 5. OK on hop flavor, could use more hop punch.
17.Wreck the Halls by Full Sail Brewing 4 out of 5. Good amount of hop bitterness for a winter ale
18.Hop Crisis by 21st Amendment. 4 out of 5. Pale in color but strong in bite.
19.18th Anniversary IPA by Stone Brewing. 3.5 out of 5. Mild hoppiness for an IPA. Deep in amber color.
20. Blown Out Brown Ale : 3.5 out of 5 Very Malty and nutty.
21.Big Eye IPA by Ballast Point 4 out of 5. Nice hoppy flavor; dry hopped
22.Killer Red by Double Mountain 4 out of 5. Big flavor and nice rich color.
23.Imperial Pelican Ale from Pelican Brewing. 3.5 out of 5. Good beer, not overly hoppy for an IPA.
24.Panko’s IPA from Snake River Brewing 3.5 out of 5. Less hoppy than to be expected. Hoping to make it to this brewery this year and taste it from the source!
