The Brewhouse Inn and Suites, Milwaukee Wisconsin

The Brewhouse Inn and Suites

The neon sign for the old Pabst Brewery

Probably one of the more interesting spots I saw while in Milwaukee was The Brewery Neighborhood. You can probably guess my appeal to the area. I arrived later in the evening and darkness had already saturated the area, limiting what I could see of my surroundings other than a neon sign that arched over the street with comforting single word “PABST”.

The Brewhouse Inn and Suites is one of the businesses located on the old Pabst Brewery campus. This 20 acre site is surrounded by 150 year old brick buildings in the process of being re-energized, bringing life back to the area since Pabst vacated in the 1990’s. Although there are a few buildings in need of some love, some have already been renovated, such as The Brewhouse Inn and Suites, an all green energy hotel.

The Brewhouse is not my typical place to stay, I am more of a 2 star kind of girl, but I spent a little extra money to stay in this historic building. As I walked into the lobby I noticed the chic monochromatic decor, with no detail overlooked. As I approached the lobby’s desk, even the check-in desk partook in the brewery fun with beer bottle ends lining the exterior of the desk. A nice touch I thought, and a great nod to the old brewery.

My room. Cute, right?

My room was located right next to the elevator on the first floor near the lobby. Initially I thought this would be an issue with noise, but I was never disturbed throughout the night. Speaking of my room, it was not really a room but more of a studio apartment. Unfortunately pets are not allowed, otherwise I would have sent for Boomer and this would be our new home. The room had everything anyone would need: a full kitchen inclusive of a sink, microwave, dishwasher and a fridge. I felt sort of wasteful as I would not be using any of these amenities, but perhaps if you stay there you can!

As it is rare for me to be traveling without Boomer I thought I would take advantage of the hotel’s restaurant and bar. It was still early in the night and I am never a fan of watching TV while on vacation … there’s always something to do or see! I walked over to Jackson’s Blue Ribbon Pub and found myself a spot at the bar.

Having a Dogfish 90 minute IPA at Jackson’s

I know that I was in the heartland of Pabst Blue Ribbon, but there was another rarity that night, I spotted Dogfish’s 90 minute IPA. For some reason Dogfish is not distributed to my home state of Idaho (psst Idaho, get on fixing this ASAP) so when I find Dogfish I have to order it!

The bar was bustling for a Wednesday night while I sat and enjoyed my beer. My last rarity of the night was the most peculiar. I was sitting next to a couple, the girl ordered herself a beer, left the bar and never returned. OK maybe that is not rare, but I felt kind of bad … for the beer. Even the bartender was shocked as she had even paid for the beer. Weird right? Who leaves a beer behind?

After my jaunt to the bar I returned back and explored the hotel a bit. When I initially checked in at the hotel the night clerk told me to take the elevator to the 2nd floor and check out the old brew kettles.

I can only assume this is a spot to work off all the beer I’ve been drinking!

If you want to check out The Brewhouse Inn and Suites or Jackson’s Blue Ribbon Pub they are located at 1215 N 10th Street (use 901 W Juneau for GPS – otherwise you’ll be driving around aimlessly like I was for about 30 minutes). There is valet parking with in/out privileges, or you can park across the street in a parking garage. Free wi-fi and breakfast in the morning are added bonuses!
