80 degrees + two black dogs + one overweight white girl = a bad combination

When I lost my job last year my travels were slightly hindered. I still ventured out, but locally. By the end of September, I became gainfully employed again and decided to celebrate this occasion by taking one last mad dash trip before returning to adult responsibilities.
Sometimes I can be a jerk.
If your mission for the day is to take a drive with stellar lake views then the Lake Coeur D’ Alene Scenic Byway is your task for the day.
If you decide to hike Blossom Lake Trail don’t forget to let your parole officer know that you are leaving the state of Idaho.
It was early in the summer season and the dogs and I decided to venture out on a hike that I had always wanted to do, but never got around to. Mostly because it was in my own backyard. And when you’re a traveler, you tend to travel away from your backyard. But this summer we made a commitment to stay in the area and explore all that North Idaho has to offer.
This 2017 summer has been a fantastic few months for us. As we wind down, heading into fall, I was thinking about all the sunny and warm days we have had. And as I think about these days I honestly can not remember the last time it rained. Which is both a good thing, but also a bad thing. As I write this post I am looking out a window. A window where I can normally see mountains. But these mountains are nowhere to be seen. The reason you ask? Because where I live I am socked in by smoke from regional fires in my home state of Idaho as well as Washington, Oregon, Montana, and Canada. This summer has been one of the driest in history and has been compared to the summer of 1910.
Oregon is a state that you love if you are traveling with your dog. They practically welcome you with open arms, allowing dogs at the majority of their beaches, state parks and let’s not forget the breweries! We have visited Newport Oregon a few times and absolutely love it there, so much so, that if we ever moved from North Idaho, Newport is at the top of our list! From their beaches to their historic bayfront check out our favorite dog-friendly locations in Newport Oregon.
It is week two of our two part series of hiking North Idaho with your dog. Last week I offered up some trails in the northern most part of Idaho’s panhandle. This week we move to the middle of the panhandle. We are still up north, but just not quite able to wave to Canada anymore.
In between dogs barking and laughter from a nearby group of children playing on the black cobblestone beach I heard a low rumbling. A rumbling that almost resembled the sound of thunder. Despite the low hanging clouds and fog that filled the bay, the sun peeked out to remind us that there is the occasional chance of sun while on the Oregon coast. Although thunder could not completely be ruled out, I decided instead to trace where the source of the noise was coming from.
