A few months ago I was trying to decide what to do with my life. I was convinced that I was going to move to Newport Oregon, get a job at Rogue Brewing and work my way up through the brewing ranks. They have an apprentice brewing program that I was intrigued by. Most breweries these days want to see you be a graduate of beer school (and yes there is such a thing) or have at least worked in a brewery… for years. Rogue on the other hand has things set up differently because well – they’re rogue!
I spend a lot of time traveling away from where I live. It’s a bad habit that I am working on fixing. My first attempt to fix this behavior is by visiting local breweries near my home. It should not be too difficult for me, we know I like beer and due to my recent job loss I really should not be driving too far anyway… right?
Slate Creek Brewing is located off of 4th street in Coeur D Alene Idaho. I won’t lie to you – I had difficulty finding the place and I’m pretty familiar with Coeur D Alene… in fact, my former hair salon is connected to the building that houses this brewery. Should I be embarrassed, probably… was I – maybe a little.
Finally winter had disappeared and it had become brew fest season! My first brew fest of the 2013 year was the Garden City Brew Fest in Missoula Montana. Although it was the 21st year of this annual fest it was my first time attending, but surely will not be my last.
